Semi-Annual Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, convened in the Tabernacle, Great Salt Lake City, Saturday, October 6, 1860, 10 a.m., President Brigham Young presiding. ¶
On the Stand: Of the First Presidency, Presidents Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, and Daniel H. Wells; of the Twelve Apostles, Orson Hyde, Wilford Woodruff, John Taylor, George A. Smith, Ezra T. Benson, Lorenzo Snow, Franklin D. Richards; of the First Presidency of Seventies, Joseph Young, Levi W. Hancock, Henry Herriman, Zera Pulsipher, Albert P. Rockwood, Horace S. Eldredge; of the High Priests, John Young, Edwin D. Woolley, Samuel W. Richards; Presidency of the Stake, David Fullmer and George B. Wallace; Patriarchs John Smith, John Young, Isaac Morley. The morning session opened with President Heber C. Kimball's "The Latter-day Kingdom" discourse (filed separately), followed by Elder George A. Smith's testimony, returning after thirteen months' absence due to lameness ("Testimony, &c," JD 8:253-255; filed separately), and President Brigham Young's "Testimony of the Spirit—Counsel to the Bishops" discourse (filed separately). In the afternoon, President Young gave an account of the season's Church emigration train and spoke on "Helping in the Immigration" (JD 8:192-193; filed separately), followed by remarks from Bishop Edwin D. Woolley and Elder Joseph W. Young on freighting teams. ¶
On Sunday, October 7, in the Bowery, Elder Orson Hyde delivered "Testimonies of the Truth" (JD 8:232-238; filed separately), followed by President Brigham Young on "Persecution—The Kingdom of God," recounting the apostasy of Thomas B. Marsh among other matters (JD 8:194-200; filed separately). The afternoon session heard from Patriarch John Young, President Heber C. Kimball, President Daniel H. Wells ("Duties of the Saints in Rolling Forth the Work of God," JD 9:118-120; filed separately), Elder John Taylor, and President Brigham Young, whose "Joys of Eternity" remarks (JD 8:200) are filed separately. ¶
On Monday, October 8, the General Authorities were sustained, the tithing report was read, and President Brigham Young addressed the conference on "Funds of the Church" (JD 8:201-205; filed separately) along with the missionary fund report. The conference was dismissed with a benediction by President Heber C. Kimball. ¶
