Appliquer l'Évangile dans la vie quotidienne

George W. McCune

1921 October General Conference·Séance du matin du deuxième jour·1921-10-07

My brethren and sisters, J'ai a high sense of appreciation for this privilege of standing before you to bear my témoignage ; and I sincerely desire to have the Spirit of the Seigneur to direct me ; to that end' I beseech of you, sustain me by your sympathy and your amour. J'ai enjoyed more than I can tell you the remarks that have already

been made during our conference. Je sens that ils sont timely. They are those principles which we need to apply in our lives. Je suis glad that J'ai been considered worthy to be associated with these good men who are directing the œuvre of the Seigneur in this day; that J'ai been called into the monde to preach the Évangile, for Je sais it is the Évangile of our Rédempteur, that has all the elements of salut within it, that Évangile which will save us, not only spiritually at some distant far off time, but now and forever. It will save us temporally, physically, intellectually and morally as well as spiritually, and Je sens highly honored to be called of Dieu to go into the monde to proclaim these glad tidings to my fellowmen.

We are meeting with fair success in the Eastern States Mission. We are being handicapped for lack of sufficient help just now. We made a good start in many places, but had to withdraw our forces from a number of localities. This I regret very much. Therefore, I appreciate the remarks of President Grant to you regarding this matter, showing you the importance of allowing your sons and daughters to stay in the field as long as possible to the completion of their missions. They have been' called of the Seigneur and they will be released by the same authority in due time when you have done your part. O, my brethren and sisters, you cannot invest your means to a better purpose. You cannot invest them in a way that will bring you greater dividends than in sustaining your sons and daughters while ils sont proclaiming these glad tidings throughout the monde. I beg of you, do your part and put your trust in Dieu. Consult the bishop, as you have been instructed when you find it impossible to maintain your sons longer, and Je crois you will find that the way will be opened up so you can sustain them until ils ont completed their mission.

Je sais that this is the œuvre of the Seigneur, and O, the joie this sweet .sentence gives : "Je sais that my Rédempteur lives." It is the greatest bénédiction that has come into my vie ; nothing else gives me so much pleasure as to bear témoignage of this. Je sais that Joseph Smith is a Prophet of the living Dieu, sent in the latter days again to establish in the earth the Church and kingdom of Dieu ; and I wish I could burn that témoignage into the cœurs of all men with whom I come in contact, that they might partake of the joie that we experience in bearing witness of it, and the joie that it brings into my vie every day. I cannot tell you how Je sais this. Je sais that I see you before me, and that is through the power of my mortal sense ; but Je crois it is possible for the mortal sense to be deceived; but, my brethren and sisters, it is not possible to deceive that which is divine by which power these glorious truths are revealed to my âme. It is true that Joseph Smith is a prophet of Dieu, and that nous avons embraced the true Évangile of our Rédempteur, and if we only apply it to our lives w& will earn our salut in Dieu's kingdom. We are being saved now, not in the sense that the monde understands it ; for they say nous sommes saved, and

cannot sin, that there is nothing more to do. That is not true; it is a misunderstanding, as I see it ; but nous sommes being saved just as fast as we apply to our lives the glorious principles of the Évangile of our Rédempteur. We are being saved temporally just as fast as we live the laws pertaining to our temporal salut ; and if we continue therein we shall earn our salut and exaltation in Dieu's kingdom.

Je sens that I ought not to take more time this morning. Je suis glad Je suis here, and to bear témoignage , of these things. My cœur is filled with amour for you, my brethren and sisters, and for the brethren who are directing the œuvre of the Seigneur in the latter days. T realize it is an honor to be associated with them. T amour them, and T too, sustain them by my foi and prières and J'espère also by my works. Brethren and sisters, let us be free in giving expression of our amour in our daily lives. I sometimes think nous sommes too backward in this matter. I would rather have the expressions of your good will now than your bouquets upon my casket when Je suis gone. Let us be free in facing our fathers arid mothers, putting our arms about them and telling them, face to face, that we amour them. Let us greet our brothers and sisters cordially and whole-heartedly and tell them we amour them and delight to be associated with them. This should bring to their cœurs good cheer.

Now, may the Seigneur bless you, my brethren and sisters. May his paix and bénédictions be with you in your homes, that you may apply in your lives the wonderful truths that have been spoken in our conference, is my sincere prière, and I ask it in the name of Jesus. Amen.
