Sunday School Work

Anthon H. Lund, Second Counselor in the First Presidency

1904 April General Conference·Deseret Sunday School Union Semi-Annual Conference·1904-04-03

I am pleased to see this large congregation, all interested in the good work of the Sunday school.

I believe that all have been pleased who have been here this evening to witness what we have seen Brother Stephens do with his choir. We sang, "If there's sunshine in the heart." We want to put sunshine into the hearts of our children. Our Sunday School is a splendid place for this, and by teaching our children singing we will do one part toward it, but especially by the good teaching that is given. In the Sunday School we lay the foundation for our children to always be in a condition that they may have sunshine in their hearts. We want to instil in their hearts and lives a love for the beautiful, a love for music and everything that tends to elevate. This is the good work in which you, brethren and sisters, are engaged.

May the Lord prosper you in your work, give you much joy therein, and may you see the children of Zion grow up strong in faith and in the love of God, I ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
