Conference record · 1874 October General Conference · 1874-10-06
Deseret News minutes of the October 6-11, 1874 General Conference (Forty-Fourth Semi-Annual Conference). First Presidency: Brigham Young; Counselors George A. Smith, Daniel H. Wells, Lorenzo Snow, Brigham Young Jr., Albert Carrington, George Q. Cannon. All 13 discourses with surviving JD full text are filed separately as talks: George A. Smith's 'Individual Salvation...' and Brigham Young Jr.'s 'Saints Are Living Witnesses...' (Monday October 6 AM); John Taylor's 'Destruction of the Wicked...' and Wilford Woodruff's 'The Gospel of Christ Unpopular...' (Monday PM per the Weebly agenda, though both files carry an October 7 date); Orson Pratt's 'God's Ancient People Polygamists...' (Tuesday October 7 PM); George Q. Cannon's 'Seek For Perfection...' (Thursday October 8 PM); Wilford Woodruff's 'Saints Are Chosen...' (Friday October 9 AM) and John Taylor's 'Knowledge Received By Immediate Revelation...' (Friday PM); Orson Pratt's 'All Men to Be Judged...,' Charles C. Rich's 'Guard Against Temptation...,' and Albert Carrington's 'Crime a Transgression of Law...' (Sunday October 11 AM); and George A. Smith's 'Faith Without Works is Dead...,' George Q. Cannon's 'Saints Are the Light of the World...,' and George A. Smith's 'Prayer Must Be Remembered in Families...' (Sunday October 11 PM, closing the conference) — confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography, which lists no other JD citations for this conference. The many other named speakers (Rich's separate October 6 remarks, Franklin D. Richards, George Goddard, Charles W. Penrose, John Van Cott, Brigham Young's several appearances) are recorded only as third-person Deseret News summaries, with no full JD text located — consistent with the bibliography, not a vault gap.

Digital compilation of conference minutes and discourse references.
Proofread against the source text.
Proofread against the official/CHL/JSP source plus scan/OCR witness; fixed a major stale-claims bug (this file wrongly asserted all discourses were 'NOT yet individually transcribed' when 13 were already filed as separate talks) and rewrote the day-by-day summary accordingly.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: fixed a stale-claims bug — this file asserted that discourses by Smith, Taylor, Woodruff, Cannon, Rich, Young Jr., and Pratt were 'NOT yet individually transcribed,' when all 13 already existed as separately filed talks (reviewed under claude-sonnet-4-6's earlier light pass, each already carrying a precise JD citation). Rewrote the day-by-day summary to name and cross-link all 13 filed discourses by session, resolving a Weebly agenda quirk where Taylor's and Woodruff's Monday-labeled talks carry an October 7 date in this vault (the agenda's short titles match sub-headings within each discourse's full JD title, confirming these are the same talks, not a discrepancy to fix). Confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography that Rich's separate October 6 remarks, Richards, Goddard, Penrose, Van Cott, and Brigham Young's several appearances have no JD citation — summary-only, not an ingestion gap. Confirmed fidelity: fragmentary remains correct per schema/schema.md for record_type: conference_record.
