Monday, October 6 Morning Session: Elder George Q. Cannon spoke; President George A. Smith delivered [[1873-10-smith-a-word-of-exhortation]], reflecting on his Palestine pilgrimage; President Brigham Young explained baptism for the dead (summary only); President Daniel H. Wells delivered [[1873-10-wells-the-saving-ordinances-of-the-gospel]]; and Elder George Q. Cannon delivered [[1873-10-cannon-the-character-of-the-church-of]] (all three filed separately), warning that "the love of wealth" ranked second only to sexual sin in corrupting influence. Monday, October 6 Afternoon Session: Elder Lorenzo D. Young noted unprecedented Utah prosperity but cautioned that wealth, not poverty and persecution, destroyed the faith of previous peoples; Elder John Taylor spoke; and Elder Brigham Young Jr. spoke on the danger of the Saints becoming worldly (all summary only). ¶
