Conference record · 1869 October General Conference · 1869-10-06
Deseret News minutes of the Thirty-Ninth Semi-Annual Conference, October 6-10, 1869 (corrected from a prior 'Fortieth' misnumbering — the Weebly page's own masthead reads 'THIRTY-NINTH SEMI-ANNUAL CONFERENCE'). All 5 discourses with surviving JD full text are filed separately as talks: Orson Hyde's 'The Right to Lead the Church, Etc.' (Wednesday PM, October 6), Orson Pratt's 'Celestial Marriage' (Thursday PM, October 7), George A. Smith's 'Celestial Marriage—Bishops and Deacons Should Be Married—Divorce' (Friday PM, October 8), and George Q. Cannon's 'Celestial Marriage' and Lorenzo Snow's 'Acting in the Name of the Lord' (both Saturday, October 9) — confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography, which lists no other JD citations for this conference. Note: the Weebly page's own agenda listing misplaces Snow's discourse under Thursday, October 7, but both the JD scan's own printed dateline and the Weebly bibliography agree on October 9; the agenda entry is treated as the source's own compilation error. The many other named speakers (Wells, Woodruff, Rich, Erastus Snow, Richards, Brigham Young Jr., Joseph F. Smith, Brigham Young's several appearances) are recorded only as third-person Deseret News summaries, with no full JD text located — consistent with the bibliography, not a vault gap.
Official published minutes of the conference.
Digital transcript of the Deseret News minutes.
Proofread against the source text.
Proofread against the official/CHL/JSP source plus scan/OCR witness; fixed a major stale-claims bug (this file wrongly asserted 4 of the conference's 5 filed discourses were 'not yet transcribed' when all were already filed as separate talks) and a conference-numbering error ('Fortieth' corrected to 'Thirty-Ninth').
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: fixed a stale-claims bug — this file asserted that discourses by Snow, Pratt, Smith, and Cannon were 'not yet transcribed,' when all already existed as separately filed talks (reviewed under claude-sonnet-4-6's earlier light pass; Hyde's was already filed too). Also fixed a conference-numbering error: the Weebly page's own masthead reads 'THIRTY-NINTH SEMI-ANNUAL CONFERENCE,' not 'Fortieth' as previously stated. Resolved a date conflict for Snow's discourse (Weebly's own agenda misplaces it under Thursday, October 7, while the JD scan's own printed dateline and the Weebly bibliography both agree on October 9) by trusting the two independent sources over the single agenda-list entry. Rewrote the day-by-day summary to name and cross-link all 5 filed discourses by session, and added the previously-missing Sunday, October 10 closing day. Confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography that no other conference speaker (Wells, Woodruff, Rich, Erastus Snow, Richards, Brigham Young Jr., Joseph F. Smith, Brigham Young's several appearances) has a JD citation — summary-only, not an ingestion gap. Confirmed fidelity: fragmentary remains correct per schema/schema.md for record_type: conference_record.
