Conference record · 1867 April General Conference · 1867-04-06
Deseret News minutes of the Thirty-Seventh Annual Conference, April 6-8, 1867. This is an unusually discourse-rich conference: all 13 discourses with surviving full text are filed separately as talks — Brigham Young's 'The Elders to Labor for the Unity of the Saints' and 'How the Sisters Can Help to Build Up the Kingdom' (Saturday AM, JD 11); John Taylor's 'Political and Social Economy' (Saturday PM, JD 11); George A. Smith's 'Raising Flax and Wool...' and Brigham Young's 'The Word of Wisdom' (Sunday AM; Smith in JD 11, Young in JD 12); Wilford Woodruff's 'Necessity of Unity in Faith and Practice,' Ezra T. Benson's 'Word of Wisdom—Happiness to Be Obtained...,' George Q. Cannon's 'Necessity of Union and Obedience to Counsel,' and Brigham Young's 'Every Saint on a Mission' (Sunday PM; Woodruff and Benson in JD 11, Cannon and Young in JD 12); Brigham Young's 'Building the Temple—Mormonism Embraces All Truth' (Monday AM, JD 11); and Charles C. Rich's 'Labor to Build Up the Kingdom,' Daniel H. Wells' 'Schools and School Teachers—Tithing, Etc.,' and Brigham Young's 'Education—Employment of Females' (Monday PM, JD 12). Two genuine gaps remain, confirmed against the Weebly page's own agenda and bibliography: President Heber C. Kimball spoke Saturday AM and Monday AM but both remarks survive only as third-person Deseret News summaries, never as a JD verbatim text, so no full-text talk file is possible; and President Daniel H. Wells delivered a separate discourse, 'The Kingdom of God Will Endure Forever,' Saturday PM (immediately after Taylor), which the Weebly bibliography attributes only to The Deseret News (May 1, 1867, pp. 138-139), not to JD — its full text was not located on the Weebly page consulted and it is not yet transcribed in this vault.
Official published minutes of the conference.
Digital transcript of the Deseret News minutes; contains full verbatim text for roughly a dozen discourses across the conference.
Proofread against the source text.
Proofread against the official/CHL/JSP source plus scan/OCR witness; fixed a major stale-claims bug (this file wrongly asserted 11 of the conference's 13 filed discourses were 'not yet transcribed' when all were already filed as separate talks) and rewrote the day-by-day summary accordingly.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: fixed a stale-claims bug — this file asserted that discourses by Taylor, Smith, Young (Word of Wisdom, Every Saint, Building the Temple, Education), Woodruff, Benson, Cannon, Rich, and Wells were 'not yet transcribed,' when all 11 already existed as separately filed talks in this vault (most reviewed under claude-sonnet-4-6's earlier light pass). Rewrote the day-by-day summary to name and cross-link all 13 filed discourses by session. Confirmed against the Weebly page's own agenda and bibliography (fetched live, not summarized) that two genuine gaps remain: Heber C. Kimball's Saturday-AM and Monday-AM remarks (summary-only in the Deseret News, never printed in JD, so no full-text talk is possible), and Daniel H. Wells' separate Saturday-PM discourse 'The Kingdom of God Will Endure Forever' (attributed only to The Deseret News, May 1 1867 pp. 138-139, per the Weebly bibliography — not JD — and not located in full text on the page consulted, so left as honest open work rather than fabricated). Confirmed fidelity: fragmentary remains correct per schema/schema.md for record_type: conference_record.
