Richard L. Evans · 1968 October General Conference · 1968-10-04
Transcribed from the official printed Conference Report of the One Hundred Thirty-eighth Semiannual (October 1968) General Conference, digitized by the Church History Library and hosted at the Internet Archive (item conferencereport1968sa), pp. 43-47. Reading order rebuilt from the item's DjVu OCR word coordinates (scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py). Running heads, page numbers, and leaf markers removed; de-hyphenated line breaks and reflowed paragraphs; printed editorial side-heads preserved as Markdown headings; corrected isolated OCR character errors (e.g. "Elder Richi ... d L. Evans" / "Of the Council of ... ie Twelve Apostles" for "Elder Richard L. Evans / Of the Council of the Twelve Apostles"; "goo<i cause" for "good cause") without altering wording.
No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.
Proofread against the source text.
Light review: in-context proofread against the heavyweight collation already on file; no additional wording changes needed.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Ingested from the conferencereport1968sa DjVu XML reading order (leaf 43-47). Corrected a defect surviving from the prior heavyweight review pass: this file previously opened with the closing paragraph of Eldred G. Smith's preceding address ("their land." through "Amen.", already correctly identified in that pass's notes as Smith's, not Evans's, but left merged here) directly followed by a paragraph beginning mid-sentence ("could not care less about traditional good and evil..."), silently skipping this address's real heading and its first three-plus pages of body (leaf 43-44, "Some days ago, on September 17..." through "...the disquieting thing about today's revolutionaries is that many of them"). This pass splits Smith's paragraph out to its own new file, 1968-10-eldred-g-smith-there-should-be-no-doubt.md, and recovers this address's true opening and missing body ahead of the portion that was already present. Collated directly against the reconstructed page text; verbatim from opening to closing 'Amen' with only mechanical OCR/hyphenation cleanup and restoration of the printed side-heads, no paraphrase.
