My Dear Brethren And Sisters And...

David O. McKay · 1967 October General Conference · 1967-09-29

Fidelity

◕Authoritative print

Transcribed from the official printed Conference Report of the One Hundred Thirty-seventh Semiannual (October 1967) General Conference, digitized by the Church History Library and hosted at the Internet Archive (item conferencereport1967sa), pp. 6-13. Reading order rebuilt from the item's DjVu OCR word coordinates (scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py). Never previously ingested into the vault; not caught by the 2026 heavyweight review's DATA QUALITY FLAG for this conference (which named only the Priesthood Meeting and closing addresses as missing) -- found independently by cross-checking the report's own index against the vault, which had no David O. McKay file at all for this conference. President McKay was present in person at this opening session (unlike the Priesthood Meeting and closing sessions, which he was too ill to attend and had read by his son), but per President Hugh B. Brown's introduction, "President McKay has prepared an address for this conference, but on the advice of his physician has decided to ask his son, Robert R. McKay, to read for him this address," matching the printed calling line "(Read by his son Robert R. McKay)." McKay's own brief extemporaneous greeting ("Good morning. It is a joy to stand before this great audience this morning...") immediately preceding this prepared address is administrative framing, not part of the address itself, and is omitted per the vault's inclusion policy. Running heads, page numbers, and leaf markers removed; de-hyphenated line breaks and reflowed paragraphs; printed editorial side-heads preserved as Markdown headings without altering wording.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Light review: in-context proofread against the heavyweight collation already on file; no additional wording changes needed.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Ingested from the conferencereport1967sa DjVu XML reading order (leaf 6-13). This address (index pages 3-10) was never ingested into the vault and had not been caught by the prior heavyweight review pass (progress/reports/conference-reports/1967-10.md), which flagged only the Priesthood Meeting and closing addresses as missing -- discovered by checking that no David O. McKay file existed at all for this conference. Collated directly against the reconstructed page text; verbatim from opening to closing 'Amen' with only mechanical OCR/hyphenation cleanup and restoration of the printed side-heads, no paraphrase. Confirmed the boundary against the following Hunter talk (already in the vault).
