Gordon B. Hinckley · 1967 October General Conference · 1967-09-30
Transcribed from the official printed Conference Report of the One Hundred Thirty-seventh Semiannual (October 1967) General Conference, digitized by the Church History Library and hosted at the Internet Archive (item conferencereport1967sa), pp. 91-94. Reading order rebuilt from the item's DjVu OCR word coordinates (scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py). This file previously opened with the closing paragraphs of Elder William J. Critchlow, Jr.'s preceding address (a "drama of eternal life" testimony ending "in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.") directly followed by a paragraph beginning mid-story ("I have observed him in conversations in Vietnam..."), silently skipping this address's true heading and its first three pages of body. This pass splits Critchlow's paragraph out to its own new file (1967-10-critchlow-all-the-worlds-a-stage.md) and recovers this address's true opening (quoting President Brigham Young's 1867 invocation at this Tabernacle's first conference) and missing body (the introduction of the LDS Army chaplain later referred to simply as "him") ahead of the portion that was already present. Running heads, page numbers, and leaf markers removed; de-hyphenated line breaks and reflowed paragraphs; printed editorial side-heads preserved as Markdown headings without altering wording.
No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.
Proofread against the source text.
Light review: in-context proofread against the heavyweight collation already on file; no additional wording changes needed.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Ingested from the conferencereport1967sa DjVu XML reading order (leaf 91-94), correcting a defect surviving from the prior heavyweight review pass: this file opened with Elder William J. Critchlow, Jr.'s closing paragraph (misattributed here by a running-head bleed, since Hinckley's own running head starts partway down the same leaf where Critchlow's talk actually ends) directly followed by a paragraph beginning mid-story, silently skipping this address's true opening and several pages of body (the introduction of an LDS Army chaplain in Vietnam whom the already-present text later calls simply 'him'). Split Critchlow's paragraph into its own new file and recovered Hinckley's true opening and missing body ahead of the portion already present. Collated directly against the reconstructed page text; verbatim from opening to closing 'Amen' with only mechanical OCR/hyphenation cleanup and restoration of the printed side-heads, no paraphrase.
This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
