Brethren Of The Priesthood And Esteemed...

David O. McKay · 1967 April General Conference · 1967-04-08

Fidelity

◕Authoritative print

Transcribed from the official printed Conference Report of the One Hundred Thirty-seventh Annual (April 1967) General Conference, digitized by the Church History Library and hosted at the Internet Archive (item conferencereport1967a), pp. 86-90. Reading order rebuilt from the item's DjVu OCR word coordinates (scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py). Never previously ingested into the vault; flagged missing by the 2026 heavyweight review of this conference and ingested in this pass. President McKay did not deliver this address in person; per President N. Eldon Tanner's introduction, "Robert McKay, son of President David O. McKay will read the President's message to us," matching the printed calling line "(Read by his son Robert R. McKay)." Elder Robert R. McKay's own brief personal remarks immediately preceding the address ("My dear brethren: Now I know what President N. Eldon Tanner meant...") are his own words, not his father's, and are omitted from this transcript per the vault's inclusion policy; the address proper begins at "Brethren of the priesthood, and esteemed fellow workers." Running heads, page numbers, and leaf markers removed; de-hyphenated line breaks and reflowed paragraphs; printed editorial side-heads preserved as Markdown headings without altering wording.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Light review: in-context proofread against the heavyweight collation already on file; no additional wording changes needed.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Ingested from the conferencereport1967a DjVu XML reading order (leaf 86-90) to fill a gap flagged in the prior heavyweight review pass (progress/reports/conference-reports/1967-04.md), which found President McKay's General Priesthood Meeting address never ingested. Collated directly against the reconstructed page text; verbatim from opening to closing 'Amen' with only mechanical OCR/hyphenation cleanup and restoration of the printed side-heads, no paraphrase. Confirmed the boundary against Elder Robert R. McKay's own preceding remarks (administrative framing, not part of the address) and the following Paul H. Dunn talk (already in the vault).

Corrections

This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
