J. Reuben Clark Jr. · 1956 April General Conference · 1956-04-07

Fidelity

◕Authoritative print

Transcribed from the official printed Conference Report of the One Hundred Twenty-sixth Annual (April 1956) General Conference, digitized by the Church History Library and hosted at the Internet Archive (item conferencereport1956a), pp. 38-40. Reading order rebuilt from the item's DjVu OCR word coordinates (scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py). Never previously ingested into the vault; flagged missing by the 2026 heavyweight review of this conference and ingested in this pass. President McKay's introduction identifies him as "President J. Reuben Clark, Jr. of the First Presidency," our "first speaker" of the session, followed by Elder Adam S. Bennion (already in the vault). Running heads, page numbers, and leaf markers removed; de-hyphenated line breaks and reflowed paragraphs without altering wording. One of two distinct J. Reuben Clark, Jr. addresses in this conference; the other is the Third Day Morning Meeting address (1956-04-clark-my-brethren-and-sisters-we-live).

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Light review: in-context proofread against the heavyweight collation already on file; no additional wording changes needed.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Ingested from the conferencereport1956a DjVu XML reading order (leaf 38-40) to fill a gap flagged in the prior heavyweight review pass (progress/reports/conference-reports/1956-04.md), which found President J. Reuben Clark Jr.'s addresses never ingested. Collated directly against the reconstructed page text; verbatim from opening to closing 'Amen' with only mechanical OCR/hyphenation cleanup, no paraphrase. Confirmed the boundary against the following Bennion talk (already in the vault).

Corrections

This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
