Milton R. Hunter · 1953 April General Conference · 1953-04-05
Official printed text of the One Hundred Twenty-third Annual (April) General Conference, held April 4, 5, and 6, 1953. The Church History Catalog record for the April 1953 Conference Report could not be independently verified this session (client-rendered catalog site; no browser access available); the Internet Archive scan (conferencereport1953a) is retained as the top-level source rather than guessing a record ID. Heavyweight review collated the text page-by-page against that scan (leaves 76-80); the opening drop-cap word "TODAY" had been OCR-mangled into the garbled title/id "Ftoday"; corrected the body's opening word to "Today" (the id/filename is kept immutable per schema even though the source of the typo is now understood). Separated numerous scripture block-quotes (Moses 1:39, Matt. 28:5-6, D&C 29:43-44, Alma 11:44,41, D&C 6:7/11:7/14:7, D&C 131:1-4, D&C 132:16-17,19,20-22,24, D&C 84:38,43-44, 2 Nephi 31:17-21, D&C 19:17-18/Mosiah 3:7/Luke 22:44, Mosiah 5:6-10, D&C 4:5/82:19) from surrounding prose that OCR had merged together.
No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.
Proofread against the source text.
Proofread against IA scan/OCR witness; reflowed numerous scripture block-quotes into separate paragraphs.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: page-by-page collation against IA scan conferencereport1953a (leaves 76-80); talk boundaries, session (Sunday Morning General Conference Session), date (Sunday, April 5, 1953), calling, and talk_order (sixth speaker, following Bruce R. McConkie who is not separately ingested) confirmed against the printed text. CHL catalog record for April 1953 could not be verified with available tools this session; kept IA scan as source per docs/review.md rather than fabricate a record ID.
This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
