George A. Christensen · 1953 April General Conference · 1953-04-04
Official printed text of the One Hundred Twenty-third Annual (April) General Conference, held April 4, 5, and 6, 1953. The Church History Catalog record for the April 1953 Conference Report could not be independently verified this session (client-rendered catalog site; no browser access available); the Internet Archive scan (conferencereport1953a) is retained as the top-level source rather than guessing a record ID. Heavyweight review collated the text page-by-page against that scan (leaves 46-50); the speaker's own running head reads "ELDER GEORGE A. CHRISTENSEN, Formerly President of the Australian Mission" — the light-review draft had misread the running head as "Austrian" and mis-split the speaker's name as "George" with speaker_id "george"; corrected to George A. Christensen throughout, and confirmed "Australian Mission" (not Austrian) against the scan's own text, which repeatedly names Australia explicitly. Removed running-head bleeds ("ELDER GEORGE A. CHRISTENSEN 47/49", "GENERAL CONFERENCE 48/50 Saturday, April 4", "First Day") and rejoined several OCR-split scripture/quotation paragraphs.
No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.
Proofread against the source text.
Proofread against IA scan/OCR witness; corrected speaker name/speaker_id (was misparsed as 'George'/'george' from an OCR-garbled running head) and the mission name (Australian, not Austrian); removed running-head bleeds.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: page-by-page collation against IA scan conferencereport1953a (leaves 46-50); talk boundaries, session (General Priesthood Meeting), date (Saturday, April 4, 1953), calling, and talk_order (second speaker, following Samuel E. Bringhurst per President McKay's introduction) confirmed against the printed text. Speaker identity and mission corrected from OCR-garbled metadata (see fidelity_notes) — this was the most significant metadata error found in the conference so far. CHL catalog record for April 1953 could not be verified with available tools this session; kept IA scan as source per docs/review.md rather than fabricate a record ID.
This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
