Session notes: Third Day Afternoon Session closes, Outdoor Meeting opens

Conference record · 1918 October General Conference · 1918-10-06

Fidelity

○Fragmentary

Session housekeeping notes (hymn/prayer credit closing the Third Day Afternoon Session, followed by the 'OUTDOOR MEETING.' heading and scene-setting description opening the next session) previously missing from the vault entirely. Reclassified as record_type: conference_record per the vault's early-conference-record convention (schema/schema.md), applied here to session-boundary housekeeping rather than an early undifferentiated record; compare 1911-10-conference-record-session-notes-34b.md, the same shape of record for an outdoor meeting in an earlier conference.

Collation history

Transcribed fresh from the conferencereport1918sa scan (djvu XML reading order reconstructed with scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py, leaf n95, printed page 95) against the reconstructed page text, not reconstructed from memory. Sits between 1918-10-24b-stephen-l-richards-remarks-24b.md (Richards's closing thank-you, end of the Third Day Afternoon Session) and 1918-10-25-joseph-w-mcmurrin-remarks.md (first talk of the Outdoor Meeting). Establishes that the Outdoor Meeting was held 'at the Bureau of Information building at 10 o'clock, Sunday, October 6' presided over by Elder Joseph W. McMurrin — the basis (together with talk 25's own final-review note, commit c6bd15bfc2) for correcting the session/date metadata of talks 25-29 from the Friday Oct. 4 'Third Day Afternoon Session' to the Sunday Oct. 6 'Outdoor Meeting'. Confirmed by direct scan collation (leaves n95-n109) that talks 25-29 (McMurrin, Cutler, Halls, Goddard, McMurrin again) all belong to this single continuous Outdoor Meeting occasion, closing with 'Benediction was pronounced by Elder Hugh S. Geddes' at leaf n109, immediately before a distinct 'SECOND OVERFLOW MEETING' (Assembly Hall, Sunday afternoon, Ivins presiding) begins at leaf n110 — the session boundary the vault currently labels talk 30 (1918-10-30-william-h-mendenhall-remarks.md) as 'Fourth Day Morning Session'; that label appears to also be wrong per this collation, but correcting it is out of scope here and is flagged separately rather than fixed in this pass. talk_order 24.6 / id suffix 24c follow the vault's established convention for inserting discovered content between two already-numbered talks without renumbering the rest of the conference.

Ingested; not yet independently reviewed.
