Veterans of the Church: The Eternal Union of Spirit and Body

Charles W. Penrose · 1914 October General Conference · 1914-10-04

Fidelity

○Fragmentary

Transcribed from the OCR of the official printed Conference Report published by the Deseret News and hosted at the Internet Archive (conferencereport1914sa). Running heads, page numbers, and line-break hyphenation removed. The opening clause of this address (and its printed synopsis heading) falls exactly at a page break in the scan and could not be recovered; the body picks up mid-sentence ('...veterans of the Church...'). Downgraded to fragmentary for this reason rather than overclaim authoritative_print.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Light review: in-context proofread, synopsis/session-artifact cleanup, and spacing fixes. NOT a full page-by-page scan collation.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Heavyweight pass: this entire talk was misattributed to a phantom speaker 'Lund.' The running head confirms 'PRESIDENT CHARLES W. PENROSE.' throughout the body (verified against conferencereport1914sa leaves 36-44), and it is a distinct, later address from Penrose's earlier prayer for peace (1914-10-02-penrose-prayer-for-peace.md) -- this vault has documented other speakers giving two separate addresses in the same conference, and Penrose apparently gave three here. Restored the missing opening paragraph (found at leaves 36-39, cut off mid-sentence: '...veterans of the Church, veterans in the great latter-day work...'); the very first clause and printed synopsis remain unrecoverable at the exact page break and are not guessed. Removed three mid-body running-head bleeds. Corrected speaker, calling, and session (First Day Morning -> Afternoon, continuing after Lyman and before Keeler). Confirmed closing 'Amen' intact. 0 QC ERRORs.
