Giving Heed to the Living Oracles

Joseph Eckersley · 1913 April General Conference · 1913-04-06

Fidelity

◕Authoritative print

Transcribed from the OCR of the official printed Conference Report published by the Deseret News and hosted at the Internet Archive, dedicated April 1913 scan (conferencereport1913a, file prefix conferencereport831chur). Running heads, page numbers, and line-break hyphenation removed. A stretch of this leaf's OCR (concerning individual liberty and freedom from priestcraft) shows heavier letter-substitution corruption than the rest of the scan (e.g. 'onnosite' for 'opposite', 'oriesthood' for 'priesthood', 'nnre' for 'pure'); corrected by evident sense, consistent with docs/review.md's OCR-fix guidance, not reconstructed from memory.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Heavyweight pass: this address by Joseph Eckersley did not exist as its own file in the prior ingest. Created from the dedicated conferencereport1913a scan via XY-cut reading-order extraction. De-hyphenated, reflowed, and fixed a run of heavier OCR letter-substitution corruption.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Heavyweight pass: verified against archive.org/details/conferencereport1913a leaves 100-103 (page/n100, running head 'ELDER JOSEPH ECKERSLEY.'). Confirmed boundaries: opens the Third Day 'Barratt Hall Meeting' (an overflow venue at the L.D.S. University, 2 p.m., presided over by President Seymour B. Young, hymns 'Come, all ye sons of Zion' and 'Come, come, ye Saints,' prayer by Elder Lewis Anderson, sustaining of General Authorities presented by Elder Seymour B. Young, solo 'Let us oft speak kind words to each other' by Prof. Charles Kent), beginning '(President of Wayne Stake.) I have rejoiced exceedingly in the inspiration of the Lord that has been manifest in all the sessions of the conference...'; ends '...which in the end shall make us wise unto salvation, I humbly pray through Jesus Christ. Amen.', immediately before David H. Cannon's address. A stray 'ELDER DAVID H. CANNON.' running head appears atop leaf 103 while Eckersley's own text visibly continues underneath it (a page-proof artifact); the true Cannon byline with its '(President of St. George Temple.)' calling follows only after Eckersley's closing 'Amen.'
