Melvin J. Ballard · 1911 April General Conference · 1911-04-09
Transcribed from the OCR of the official printed Conference Report published by the Deseret News and hosted at the Internet Archive (conferencereport1911a). Running heads, page numbers, and line-break hyphenation removed.
No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.
Proofread against the source text.
Heavyweight pass: corrected a garbled speaker name (also fixed in the id/filename), truncated title, trailing period on the calling, and date/session (Third Day Afternoon Overflow Meeting, not First Day); anchored source_url leaf, removed running-head bleeds, and fixed OCR letter errors.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: reconstructed true reading order from the conferencereport1911a DjVu XML word coordinates (scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py) and corrected the source_url leaf from an initial guess of n89 to the confirmed n88. Renamed the file and corrected the speaker's name from a garbled OCR rendering ('Melvln' -> 'Melvin'; the source itself misreads it the same way in this talk's own header, 'ELDER MELVLN J. BALLARD.', though it is spelled correctly elsewhere in the same volume). Rewrote the truncated title and removed a stray trailing period from the calling. Corrected date and session from the systematic First Day mislabeling affecting this stretch of the conference (see 1911-04-conference-record-session-notes-27.md). Removed three mid-paragraph running-head bleeds ('ELDER MELVIN J. BALLARD.'). Fixed a number of OCR letter errors (rght -> right, nave -> have, tne -> the, & -> a, researcn -> research, know as -> known as, a stray period before 'honor the names', Latterday -> Latter-day, ninetyfive -> ninety-five [several], capers -> papers, rrjingle -> mingle). Confirmed boundaries clean: begins with Ballard's own remarks, ends at his own Amen.
This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
