The sin of criticising or fault finding

Joseph Fielding Smith · 1910 October General Conference · 1910-10-07

Fidelity

◕Authoritative print

Transcribed from the OCR of the official printed Conference Report of the Eighty-First Semi-Annual Conference (October 6, 7, and 9, 1910), published by the Deseret News and hosted at the Internet Archive (conferencereport1910sa; DjVu file conferencereport811chur). Reading order was reconstructed from the DjVu word coordinates with scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py. The printed report supplies an editorial topic-summary for each discourse, preserved at the top of the body when present; the title is supplied from that summary. Not yet proofread line-by-line against the page images (status: draft, pending Final Review). source_archived_url points to the Internet Archive item itself.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Split out 2026-07 from 1910-10-brigham-h-roberts-that-man-must-be-accounted-fortunate-who-in-this-p.md, where the original ingestion batch had wrongly run this entire address on past Elder B. H. Roberts's close (through an intervening soprano-solo session note) and into Elder Anthony W. Ivins's following address, all under Roberts's frontmatter. Collated against conferencereport1910sa/conferencereport811chur leaves n38-n41: this file now holds only Elder Joseph Fielding Smith's (printed under his then-customary byline 'Elder Joseph F. Smith, Jr.') own address, from his printed topic-summary line through his closing 'Amen.', immediately followed in the source by the genuine start-of-address header for Elder Anthony W. Ivins (already correctly filed as its own talk). talk_order shifted from a bare gap between Roberts (9) and Ivins (formerly 10, now 11) to fill this talk in at 10; Second Day Afternoon Session talks on the same date were bumped accordingly. Speaker identity per schema/speakers-authority.yaml's joseph-fielding-smith entry, which notes early Conference Reports printed his name as 'Joseph F. Smith, Jr.'; calling_at_time reflects his ordination as an apostle in April 1910. Light in-context cleanup only (rejoined one hard-wrapped sentence split across a page break); not a full page-by-page scan collation. Pending Final Review.
