George F. Richards · 1907 October General Conference · 1907-10-05
Transcribed from the OCR of the official printed Conference Report of the Seventy-Eighth Semi-Annual Conference (October 1907), hosted at the Internet Archive (conferencereport1907sa). Collated against the DjVu XML reading-order reconstruction.
No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.
Proofread against the source text.
Newly ingested: split out of 1907-10-whitney-defending-the-saints.md, which had wrongly bundled this Richards address under Whitney's file (a second, unrelated talk followed under its own correct header).
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: this is a newly-created file, not a redo of an existing one. Split out of 1907-10-whitney-defending-the-saints.md, where this entire George F. Richards address (running head 'EIDER GEORGE F. RICHARDS.', OCR misread of 'ELDER') had been wrongly bundled ahead of Whitney's own, unrelated 'Reply to Bishop Spalding' address in the same file. Reconstructed true reading order from the conferencereport1907sa DjVu XML word coordinates (scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py); confirmed this address begins with the genuine session-opening record (conference resumed, two hymns, prayer) and ends cleanly at Richards's own 'Amen.', immediately followed by Whitney's separate address under its own correct running head. Removed the printed synopsis line. Fixed roughly a dozen OCR letter errors (remem brance -> remembrance, s*tay -> stay, they^ -> they, threee-quarters -> three-quarters, Thev -> They, with- all -> with all, does lives -> does live, and other stray punctuation). Confirmed the John 15 and Revelation 14 scripture quotations and the Deseret News membership-statistics clipping are transcribed accurately against the OCR. Kept talk_order 10 (matching Whitney's, since they occur back-to-back in the same session; a full renumbering of the rest of the day was judged out of scope for this pass).
This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
