Conference record · 1907 April General Conference · 1907-04-05
This is the official "Address to the World" declaration signed by the First Presidency (John R. Winder and Anthon H. Lund, on behalf of the Presidency) and adopted by vote of the conference on April 5, 1907. It is not a discourse; it was read aloud by Elder Orson F. Whitney during the First Day Morning Session (see 1907-04-smith-congratulations-and-growth.md and 1907-04-winder-endorsement-of-address.md for the surrounding session record) and printed as an appendix to the official Conference Report. Reclassified as record_type: conference_record. Transcribed from the OCR of the official printed Conference Report (conferencereport1907a), collated against the DjVu XML reading-order reconstruction.
No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.
Proofread against the source text.
Newly ingested: split out of 1907-04-smith-closing-address.md, which had wrongly appended the full text of this document (plus trailing print-shop advertisement matter) after President Smith's own closing prayer.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: this is a newly-created file, not a redo of an existing one. Split out of the end of 1907-04-smith-closing-address.md, where the full appendix text of the Address to the World had been wrongly appended after President Smith's own closing prayer and the conference colophon (choir/stenographer credits, kept on the Smith file). Reconstructed true reading order from the conferencereport1907a DjVu XML word coordinates (scripts/ingest/cr-reading-order.py). Restored a genuinely truncated fragment: the original ingest dropped 'Joseph Smith, the first President of the Church, founded' before 'schools, and attended them as a student', recovered verbatim from the DjVu XML. Fixed roughly 30 OCR letter errors throughout (restoied -> restored, piomulgated -> promulgated, lineaee -> lineage, piofessions -> professions, enliehtened -> enlightened (x2), amon.r -> among, selfsustaining -> self-sustaining, pwerned -> governed, meeknes.' -> meekness, dutv -> duty, irdividuals -> individuals, fightetn -> fighteth, destrov -> destroy, crystalizations -> crystallizations, and stray punctuation). Trimmed the trailing print-shop advertisement matter ('Salt La:::2 City, Utah. DESERET NEWS...State Repository for School Books...') which is not part of the Church's document -- back-matter from the printed Conference Report, not content to preserve as a record. talk_order set to 1 to place it at the start of the conference where it was read and adopted; a full renumbering of the day was judged out of scope for this pass.
