Joseph W. Summerhays · 1905 April General Conference · 1905-04-09
Transcribed from the OCR of the official printed Conference Report of the Seventy-Fifth Annual Conference (April 1905), hosted at the Internet Archive (conferencereport1905a), printed pp. 82-83 (djvu.xml reading order, leaves 82-83). This file previously conflated the whole Deseret Sunday School Union evening session (session record + James E. Talmage's "Theology and Religion" + Joseph M. Tanner's "The Spirit in Sunday School Work") under Summerhays' byline, with Summerhays' actual remarks -- a short Q&A on Sunday school hat-removal policy, immediately following Tanner's "Amen" -- dropped entirely by an earlier pass. Per Noah's standing structural-blocker ruling (progress/qc-pipeline/cr-1905/acceptance-evidence.md §B, option A), the session material has now been split out: Talmage's talk is `1905-04-talmage-theology-and-religion`, Tanner's talk is `1905-04-tanner-spirit-in-sunday-school-work`, and this file has been re-imported from the printed source with Summerhays' genuine remarks. Joseph F. Smith's closing address (which immediately follows this one in print) was already correctly present in the vault as `1905-04-smith-sunday-school-instructions` and is unaffected by this fix beyond a talk_order renumbering (33 -> 35) to keep the session in printed order. OCR fixes applied against the djvu.xml text layer: "then heads" -> "their heads" and "keep them oft" -> "keep them off" (both clear OCR character misreads of common words). Not yet independently re-collated against the page image -- eligible for the normal Final Review pipeline like any other draft.
No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.
Ingested; not yet independently reviewed.
This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
