Joseph F. Smith · 1903 April General Conference · 1903-04-06

Fidelity

◕Authoritative print

Transcribed from the Church History Library scan of the official printed Conference Report of the Seventy-Third Annual Conference (April 1903), Conference Report (English, 1880-2017) Volume 7, catalog record db680f1b-d7fa-46b5-9252-143bcc36d460, printed pp. 80-82 (image leaf = printed page + 1, confirmed). This CHL scan's final leaves were not digitized by the Internet Archive mirror (conferencereport1903a), which truncates mid-sentence at "that they had everything in" and drops directly into back-matter advertisements; the CHL scan carries two further leaves that the IA copy is missing and supplies the complete close of Smith's remarks. OCR corrected by hand (running heads and line-break hyphenation removed, paragraphing restored, obvious OCR errors corrected). Proofread against the CHL page images for the restored portion (pp. 81-82); the opening two paragraphs (p. 80) retain the prior reviewer's in-context proofread. Grade reflects the officially published Conference Report.

Witnesses

Official CHL scan of the printed Conference Report; image leaf = printed page + 1 (verified against printed page numbers visible on each leaf). Complete through Smith's closing 'Amen' and the following speaker's heading (Elder Joseph M. Tanner) -- confirms nothing further of Smith's remarks was cut.

Prior primary witness. Truncates mid-sentence at 'that they had everything in' -- this item's scan is missing the final leaf(s) that the CHL copy retains; kept as a witness for the opening portion only.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Light review: in-context proofread, encoding-artifact cleanup, synopsis/session-artifact cleanup, and spacing fixes. NOT a full page-by-page scan collation.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Resolves the prior heavyweight_review_blocker. The IA scan (conferencereport1903a) used as the original witness is missing its final leaf(s); no second IA copy, and the two HathiTrust candidates found in an earlier pass (Princeton njp.32101021587751, Wisconsin wu.89067405886) remained blocked by bot-detection. Located a previously-unchecked witness via archiveviewer.org's April 1903 collection listing: the Church History Library's own digitization of this same Conference Report (catalog record db680f1b-d7fa-46b5-9252-143bcc36d460, 'Conference Report (English, 1880-2017)' Volume 7), not one of the two Google Books false leads or the bot-blocked HathiTrust items checked previously. Collated page-by-page against the CHL scan images (printed pp. 80-82, image indices 81-83; image leaf = printed page + 1, confirmed from the printed page numbers visible on each leaf). Page 80 ends with the exact same cutoff phrase as the IA witness ('...that they had everything in'), confirming this is the same printed edition, not a variant; page 81 continues the sentence seamlessly ('excellent condition, but their greatest trouble...') through to page 82, where Smith's remarks close with 'The Lord bless you ... in the name of Jesus. Amen.' immediately followed by the heading for the next speaker, Elder Joseph M. Tanner (confirmed as a session/speaker boundary, excluded from this talk). Restored the missing text verbatim from the CHL scan with no reconstruction or paraphrase. Switched source_url/source_type to the CHL scan (institutionally preferred per AGENTS.md source-priority guidance) and retained the IA copy as a secondary witness for the opening portion.
