Counsel to the Saints

Wilford Woodruff · 1898 April General Conference · 1898-04-07

Fidelity

◕Authoritative print

Transcribed from the OCR of the official printed Conference Report of the Sixty-eighth Annual Conference (April 1898), scanned by the Church History Library and hosted at the Internet Archive (conferencereport1898a). OCR was cleaned and corrected: running heads, page numbers, and line-break hyphenation removed; obvious OCR errors fixed. Not yet proofread page-by-page against the scan images, so minor residual OCR errors may remain (status: draft, pending review).

Witnesses

No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Light review: in-context proofread, synopsis/session-artifact cleanup, and spacing fixes. NOT a full page-by-page scan collation.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Heavyweight pass: this file was severely truncated, cut off mid-sentence roughly halfway through Woodruff's long biographical/testimony discourse (his Zion's Camp cholera account) by a stray page-number artifact. Recovered the entire missing second half (~2,300 words) from the IA djvu OCR (conferencereport1898a), covering his Fox Islands mission, England ministry, and closing testimony, through the genuine 'Amen' (the congregation reportedly rose en masse and sang at its conclusion, per the printed account). Removed two further mid-body running-head bleeds encountered in the recovered text ('PRESIDENT WILFORD WOODRUFF', 'PRESIDENT GEORGE Q. CANNON') and a leaked printed subject-list fragment from the body opening. Fixed numerous OCR errors in the recovered text (smypathize->sympathize, powei/th?re->power/there, noithunder->nor thunder, Ziion->Zion, usbut->us but, scare->so are, feet->feel, Mutuallmprovement->Mutual Improvement, and others). The recovered portion uses standard period punctuation rather than this file's established em-dash sentence-separator convention, since it was reconstructed fresh from OCR rather than copied from an already-styled source; flagging this minor style inconsistency honestly rather than risking transcription errors converting ~2,300 words of punctuation by hand. 0 QC ERRORs.
