Matthias F. Cowley · 1897 October General Conference · 1897-10-06
Transcribed from the OCR of the official printed Conference Report of the Sixty-eighth Semi-Annual Conference (October 1897), scanned by the Church History Library and hosted at the Internet Archive (conferencereport1897sa). Heavyweight pass collated the full talk against the IA djvu OCR page-by-page.
No witness list recorded beyond the primary source.
Proofread against the source text.
Light review: in-context proofread, synopsis/session-artifact cleanup, and spacing fixes. NOT a full page-by-page scan collation.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: this file was both missing its true opening and truncated before its true ending. Recovered the missing opening from the IA djvu OCR (conferencereport1897sa) -- the printed subject list is actually 'Beneficial character of Mutual Improvement associations -- Operation of the Holy Spirit -- Reception of blessings predicated upon Obedience -- Secular education does not prevent crime,' which this file's old title ('Fragments of Truth Among All Peoples,' picking only a later theme) did not reflect; retitled accordingly. Also recovered the missing closing sentence and 'Amen.' Session/date corrected: this talk falls before Elder Abraham Owen Woodruff's talk and the Church Schools/Religion Class reports that close out Third Day, so it belongs to Third Day Morning Session, not Third Day Afternoon Session as previously labeled. Fixed source_url page anchor from n54 to n53 (the talk's real start, one page earlier than the mid-talk running head the old citation pointed to). talk_order set to 5 within Third Day Morning Session after upstream reordering (Fjelsted 1, Roberts 2, Reynolds 3, Kimball 4, this talk 5; Abraham Owen Woodruff 6 and McAllister 7 follow -- see conference notes). Fixed OCR errors (chldren->children, coristantly->constantly, les^son->lesson, whch->which, 111->Ill., stray carets removed). 0 QC ERRORs.
This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
