◑Contemporaneous report

Reported by Arthur Winter for The Deseret Weekly, November 28, 1896, pg. 737-739 per the weebly citation index; speaker did not review. Verified via BYU ContentDM's dmwebservices API (dmGetCompoundObjectInfo/dmGetItemInfo, desnews5 collection) that the November 28, 1896 issue exists there as compound object pointer 15494 with pages 15527-15618, covering pp. 737-739 among them; the article-level item tagged "Discourse" within it (dmrecord 15528) returns OCR text that opens with Cannon's Sunday October 4 discourse (matching 1896-10-cannon-discourse.md) and, in its final visible portion, discusses the same submission-to-priesthood-authority theme carried through this file's body -- consistent with, but not conclusive proof of, this being a continuous multi-day reprint rather than a mismatch, since the API's itemtr field truncates at 16,000 characters before reaching page 739 and a direct page-image check was not available this session. Cited the confirmed issue-level compound object rather than the specific (unconfirmed) article ID; body text collated against the historicalgeneralconferences.weebly.com transcription, which is internally consistent and clearly distinct from the Sunday discourse's captured text.

Witnesses

Reported by Arthur Winter for The Deseret Weekly; speaker did not review. Issue confirmed present via dmwebservices API; article-level page match not independently confirmed (16,000-char OCR field truncation).

Secondary transcript witness; body collated against this text.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Proofread body text against the historicalgeneralconferences.weebly.com transcription witness and the full conference proceedings context; confirmed distinct from the Sunday Oct 4 Cannon discourse (no overlapping text), no OCR errors or boundary bleed found. Upgraded source_url from weebly (banned as canonical for JD-era talks per docs/review.md) to the confirmed BYU ContentDM issue-level compound object; weebly demoted to secondary witness.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Heavyweight pass: confirmed via BYU ContentDM's dmwebservices API that the November 28, 1896 Deseret Weekly issue (pp. 737-739 among its pages) exists in the desnews5 collection (compound object pointer 15494); could not independently prove the specific article-level item (dmrecord 15528) is this exact Tuesday October 6 discourse rather than a mismatched duplicate of the Sunday October 4 discourse, since the API's OCR text field truncates at 16,000 characters before the point of divergence -- an honest tooling limitation (would need direct page-image review of pp. 737-739 to fully resolve), not a content-fabrication concern: the body itself is a substantive, internally consistent verbatim discourse (collated against the weebly transcript) clearly distinct from the Sunday discourse, not a compiler bracket-summary. Cited the confirmed issue-level source per docs/review.md's fallback-with-flag guidance rather than leaving indefinitely blocked.
