Conference record · 1879 October General Conference · 1879-10-06
Deseret News minutes of the October 6-8, 1879 General Conference (Forty-Ninth Semi-Annual Conference). President John Taylor presiding. All 7 discourses with surviving JD full text are filed separately as talks: Orson Pratt's 'Progress of the Work of God...' and Lorenzo Snow's 'The Church Founded Upon the Rock...' (First Day AM); Franklin D. Richards' 'Preaching of John the Baptist...' and John Taylor's 'The Work of God Cannot Be Hindered...' (First Day PM); John Taylor's 'Opposition to the Work of God, Etc.' (Tuesday October 7 PM — a single discourse JD itself splits across Volumes 21 and 22, merged into one file); George Q. Cannon's 'The Righteous Suffer Persecution...' (Tuesday evening); and Erastus Snow's 'Cleave to Light...' (Wednesday October 8 AM) — confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography, which lists no other JD citations for this conference. The many other named speakers (Young Jr., Joseph Young, Joseph F. Smith, Wells, Thatcher, Angus M. Cannon, Zina Young) are recorded only as third-person Deseret News summaries, with no full JD text located — consistent with the bibliography, not a vault gap. Notable: President John Taylor prophesied severe national judgment if persecution of the Saints continued.

Digital compilation of conference minutes and discourse references.
Proofread against the source text.
Proofread against the official/CHL/JSP source plus scan/OCR witness; fixed a major stale-claims bug (this file wrongly asserted only 4 discourses existed and were 'NOT yet individually transcribed,' when 7 were already filed as separate talks, including a two-file discourse now merged into one) and rewrote the day-by-day summary accordingly.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: fixed a stale-claims bug — this file asserted that discourses by Pratt, Lorenzo Snow, Richards, and Taylor were 'NOT yet individually transcribed,' when all 4 already existed as separately filed talks, plus 3 more (a second Taylor discourse, Cannon, and Erastus Snow) not mentioned at all in the prior version. During this pass, also discovered and merged a genuine two-file split of John Taylor's 'Opposition to the Work of God' discourse (JD itself splits it across Volumes 21 and 22) into one canonical file — see that file's own heavyweight notes. Rewrote the day-by-day summary to name and cross-link all 7 filed discourses by session. Confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography that Young Jr., Joseph Young, Joseph F. Smith, Wells, Thatcher, Angus M. Cannon, and Zina Young have no JD citation — summary-only, not an ingestion gap. Confirmed fidelity: fragmentary remains correct per schema/schema.md for record_type: conference_record.
