Conference record · 1868 October General Conference · 1868-10-06
Deseret News minutes of the Thirty-Eighth Semi-Annual Conference, October 6-8, 1868 (corrected from a prior 'Thirty-Ninth' misnumbering — the Weebly page's own masthead reads 'THIRTY-EIGHTH SEMI-ANNUAL CONFERENCE,' consistent with April 1868 being the Thirty-Eighth Annual Conference). All 5 discourses with surviving JD full text are filed separately as talks: Orson Pratt's 'The Opposition of Wickedness to Righteousness...' (Tuesday AM, JD 12), George Q. Cannon's 'Self-Sustaining—Persecutions—Outside Influence' (Wednesday AM, JD 12), George A. Smith's two-part 'Historical Address' (Wednesday PM/Thursday AM, JD 13), and Brigham Young's 'Salvation Temporal and Spiritual...' and 'Southern Missions...' (both Thursday, JD 12) — confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography, which lists no other JD citations for this conference. The conference included a large missionary call to the southern settlements, listed in full below.
Official published minutes of the conference.
Digital transcript of the Deseret News minutes.
Proofread against the source text.
Proofread against the official/CHL/JSP source plus scan/OCR witness; fixed a major stale-claims bug (this file wrongly asserted 4 of the conference's 5 filed discourses were 'not yet transcribed' when all were already filed as separate talks) and a conference-numbering error ('Thirty-Ninth' corrected to 'Thirty-Eighth').
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: fixed a stale-claims bug — this file asserted that discourses by Pratt, Cannon, and a 'second Brigham Young discourse' were 'not yet transcribed,' when all already existed as separately filed talks (reviewed under claude-sonnet-4-6's earlier light pass; Young's 'Salvation Temporal and Spiritual' was already filed too, and correctly identified in the prior version, though as a duplicate pair now merged). Also fixed a conference-numbering error: the Weebly page's own masthead reads 'THIRTY-EIGHTH SEMI-ANNUAL CONFERENCE,' not 'Thirty-Ninth' as previously stated. Rewrote the day-by-day summary to name and cross-link all 5 filed discourses by session. Confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography that no other conference speaker (Hyde, Taylor, Joseph W. Young, Hunter, Van Cott, Wells) has a JD citation — summary-only, not an ingestion gap. Confirmed fidelity: fragmentary remains correct per schema/schema.md for record_type: conference_record.
