Conference record · 1868 April General Conference · 1868-04-06
Deseret News minutes of the Thirty-Eighth Annual Conference, April 6-8, 1868, held in the New Tabernacle (preceded by an unofficial Sunday, April 5 session, also reported in the source). All 5 discourses with surviving JD full text are filed separately as talks: George A. Smith's 'Importance of Observing the Sabbath Day...,' George Q. Cannon's 'Word of Wisdom—Fish Culture—Dietetics,' and Brigham Young's 'Necessity of Obeying Counsel...' (all Monday PM, JD 12); Erastus Snow's 'The Gathering—Practical Duties...' (Wednesday AM, JD 12); and Brigham Young's 'Domestic Economy...' (Wednesday PM, JD 12) — confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography, which lists no other JD citations for this conference. The many other named speakers (Joseph F. Smith, Wilford Woodruff, Joseph W. Young, John Taylor, Ezra T. Benson, Orson Hyde, Orson Pratt, Heber C. Kimball, Daniel H. Wells, Lorenzo Snow) are recorded only as third-person Deseret News summaries, with no full JD text located — consistent with the bibliography, not a vault gap.
Official published minutes of the conference.
Digital transcript of the Deseret News minutes.
Proofread against the source text.
Proofread against the official/CHL/JSP source plus scan/OCR witness; fixed a major stale-claims bug (this file wrongly asserted 4 of the conference's 5 filed discourses were 'not yet transcribed' when all were already filed as separate talks) and rewrote the day-by-day summary accordingly.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: fixed a stale-claims bug — this file asserted that discourses by Smith, Cannon, Snow, and a 'second Brigham Young discourse' were 'not yet transcribed,' when all 4 already existed as separately filed talks (reviewed under claude-sonnet-4-6's earlier light pass; Young's 'Necessity of Obeying Counsel' was already filed too, and correctly identified in the prior version, though as a duplicate pair now merged). Added the previously-missing unofficial Sunday, April 5 session to the day-by-day summary, and cross-linked all 5 filed discourses by session. Confirmed against the Weebly page's own bibliography that no other conference speaker (Joseph F. Smith, Woodruff, Joseph W. Young, Taylor, Benson, Hyde, Pratt, Kimball, Wells, Lorenzo Snow) has a JD citation — summary-only, not an ingestion gap. Confirmed fidelity: fragmentary remains correct per schema/schema.md for record_type: conference_record.
