The printed header dates this compiled set of instructions 'in April and May, 1863,' and the body's own opening line anchors the first instruction to 'the 20th of April, 1863,' when President Young and company left Great Salt Lake City and arrived at American Fork; date recorded here as approximate, reflecting that anchor rather than a single fixed delivery date.
