Conference record · 1862 October General Conference · 1862-10-06
Deseret News minutes (October 15, 1862, pp. 124-125) of the Semi-Annual Conference, October 6-7, 1862. Brigham Young's 'Never-Ending Character of a Saints' Mission' and 'Future State of Existence' discourses, Heber C. Kimball's 'Our Duties to God Paramount to All Other Obligations—Danger of Speculation' (JD 10:75-78), Charles C. Rich's 'Present Opportunities of Obtaining a Knowledge of the Principles of Truth' (JD 10:90-95), Amasa M. Lyman's 'The Object of Gathering' (JD 10:83-90), Orson Hyde's two discourses (JD 10:70-75, 112-113), and George A. Smith's 'The Importance of the Mission to the Cotton Country' (JD 10:121-122, October 8) are all filed separately as full talks in this vault. This record preserves the surrounding minutes/order-of-business only.
Official published minutes of the conference.
Digital transcript of the Deseret News minutes.
Proofread against the source text.
Light review: in-context proofread, encoding-artifact cleanup, synopsis/session-artifact cleanup, and spacing fixes. NOT a full page-by-page scan collation.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Heavyweight pass: fixed a stale-claims bug — fidelity_notes and body previously said Kimball's and Rich's discourses were 'summarized below but not yet transcribed' and that Lyman's and both Hyde discourses were 'NOT yet transcribed,' when all five already existed as separate full-text files in this vault (this exact bug pattern has recurred across prior JD conferences reviewed in this session). Rewrote both fields to state plainly that all eight discourses (Young x2, Kimball, Rich, Lyman, Hyde x2, Smith) are filed separately, and added George A. Smith's October 8 'Importance of the Mission to the Cotton Country' (JD 10:121-122), which the prior pass had omitted from this record entirely. Verified this record's summary content against the historicalgeneralconferences.weebly.com raw HTML minutes/bibliography section and the Deseret News (October 15, 1862) citation; record correctly stays a fragmentary-fidelity minutes/order-of-business summary rather than duplicating full discourse text.
