Deseret News minutes of the October 6-7, 1857 General Conference. Clerk: Leo Hawkins. Reporter: J. V. Long. All six discourses from this conference that survive in the Journal of Discourses are filed separately as full talks: Brigham Young's 'Advantages of Trials and Experience' and 'Testimony of the Spirit,' Lorenzo Snow's 'Wisdom Gained By Experience,' Charles C. Rich's 'Sufficiency of the Gospel,' Amasa M. Lyman's 'Peace, Confidence, and Ultimate Victory of the Saints,' and Erastus Snow's 'Testimonies of Returned Missionaries.' Corrected during heavyweight review; a prior pass of this note did not cross-reference Lyman, Erastus Snow, or Young's second discourse even though they already existed as separate files. The many shorter testimonies from returned missionaries remain summarized here rather than filed separately. This conference took place while Johnston's Army was marching toward Utah Territory.

Heavyweight pass: this conference-record file did not cross-reference Lyman's, Erastus Snow's, or Young's second discourse even though they already existed as separate talk files. Corrected the fidelity_notes and body narrative. Also found and fixed a serious content-integrity bug in the sibling Young 'Testimony of the Spirit' file (duplicate text of Young's other discourse at this conference; see that file's heavyweight_review_notes). newspapers.lib.utah.edu returns HTTP 418 to automated fetch, a known tooling limitation, so the full Deseret News minutes text was not independently re-verified against the original scan this pass.
