Conference record · 1854 October General Conference · 1854-10-06
Deseret News minutes of the October 6, 1854 General Conference (and following days). All discourses from this conference that survive in the Journal of Discourses are filed separately as full talks: Benson's return-from-the-plains discourse, Young's 'Debtors to the Perpetual Emigrating Fund' and 'Marriage Relations of Bishops and Deacons,' Smith's 'Perpetual Emigrating Fund, Etc.' (JD 7:59-62), Kimball's 'Adherence to Mormonism' (JD 7:39-41), Grant's 'The Immigration' (JD 2:71-74), Pratt's 'The Perpetual Emigrating Fund' (JD 2:54-61), and Hyde's 'Gathering the Saints' (JD 2:61-70) and 'The Marriage Relations' (JD 2:75-87). Corrected during heavyweight review; a prior pass of this note incorrectly claimed all of these except Benson/Young-debtors were not yet transcribed, when they already existed as separate files. Orson Hyde's short morning remarks praising the relief volunteers are summarized here rather than filed separately given their brevity.

Heavyweight pass: this conference-record file claimed most of the conference's discourses were not yet transcribed, when they already existed as separate talk files. Corrected the fidelity_notes and body narrative. Also found and fixed a serious content-integrity bug in the sibling Young 'Marriage Relations of Bishops' file (duplicate text of a different discourse; see that file's heavyweight_review_notes). newspapers.lib.utah.edu returns HTTP 418 to automated fetch, a known tooling limitation, so the full Deseret News minutes text was not independently re-verified against the original scan this pass.
This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
