John Young · 1853 April General Conference · 1853-04-06
Delivered April 6, 1853, at the North-west cornerstone of the Salt Lake Temple. John Young was a brother of Brigham Young and served as Patriarch (President of the High Priests' Quorum). This oration was part of the same four-cornerstone ceremony that produced Young's SE oration, Kimball's SE prayer, Hunter's SW oration, and Cordon's SW prayer. Published in Journal of Discourses, Volume 2, pp. 40-41. The BYU ContentDM item-level page for this discourse is currently unlocatable/broken client-side; the Internet Archive scan of JD vol. 2 at this page range is badly garbled two-column OCR, unusable for word-level collation. Text below is taken from the historicalgeneralconferences.weebly.com transcript, the best available clean witness for this discourse. Pitman shorthand report by George D. Watt; the speaker did not review this text before publication.
Digital transcript of the NW cornerstone oration; used as source_url because the IA scan of JD 2:40-41 is badly garbled two-column OCR and the BYU ContentDM item page is currently broken client-side.
Page-anchored scan witness for Journal of Discourses volume 2, page 40. OCR text at this page range is badly garbled two-column layout (columns interleaved), not usable for word-level verification; kept as a page-location witness only.
