Conference record · 1849 October General Conference · 1849-10-06
Full transcription pass (2026-07-24, claude-opus-5) of the *original* CHL minutes, the item the previous pass's Bullock copy pointed to with its own note 'See following for original minutes with more detail.' All 11 leaves of 'General Conference proceedings, Salt Lake City' (Historian's Office general Church minutes, 1839-1877, folder '1849 October 1-7', CR 100 318, Box 2 fd 15, recorded by Thomas Bullock) are now transcribed below by direct reading of the CHL leaf images, fetched via the catalog's own delivery API (accessLevelCode 'unconditional' confirmed on the item, and the parent folder carries restrictionLevel 'open to research', before download). Method - four overlapping 2x-scale contrast-enhanced bands per leaf plus targeted 4-5x zooms on hard words. Delivery order is not document order; the sequence was reconstructed from session headings, the ink leaf-numbering, and text continuity across leaf breaks, and is leaf 11 (Oct 6, 10 a.m.), 1, 2, 3 (Oct 6 candlelight officers' meeting), 4, 5 (Oct 7, 10 a.m.), 6, 7 (Oct 7, 2 p.m., then the evening setting-apart meeting), 8, 9, with leaf 10 the docketed wrapper (verso of leaf 9). The record covers four sessions plus the evening missionary setting-apart meeting at which each departing elder's blessing was taken down verbatim. Still graded fragmentary because Bullock's minute-hand carries word-level uncertainty throughout; uncertain readings are bracketed in place, cancellations recorded as [struck: ...], interlineations as ^[...], and expanded abbreviations in square brackets.
The original minutes, in Bullock's contemporaneous minute-hand, and the source of the transcription below. Catalog description - 'General Conference. Includes October 6 conference of officers and October 7 meeting of missionaries set apart. Recorded by Thomas Bullock.' Docketed by Bullock on the wrapper (leaf 10) 'Oct. 6 & 7 - 1849 / Minutes of Conference / Missionaries called and set apart to Europe, California, Sandwich Islands, &c. Sick healed through Jos. Smith.' accessLevelCode 'unconditional'; parent folder restrictionLevel 'open to research'.
A later fair copy by Bullock, titled 'Minutes of the General Conference, held Great Salt Lake City, Oct. 6 & 7, 1849.' Its own note - 'See following for original minutes with more detail' - points to the preferred item above. Source of the 'Attendee List, per the CHL Copy' section retained below.
OCR'd from MStar_Vol_12_djvu.txt (lines ~11085-11202). An editorial summary, not minutes. Retained below as a second witness because it is the form in which this conference circulated to the Saints abroad, and because it independently corroborates much of the manuscript.

Legacy field (heavyweight review retired 2026-07). That pass located a Bullock *copy* (8 leaves) and transcribed its attendee list; it named the Perpetual Emigrating Fund committee as 'Willard Snow, John [?] Hunter, Erastus Snow', which the original minutes transcribed here correct - the committee of five voted on October 6 was Willard Snow, John S. Fullmer, Lorenzo Snow, John D. Lee and F. D. Richards, with Edward Hunter to carry the funds back and have the oversight of the whole.
