Conference record · 1848 October General Conference · 1848-10-06
Full transcription pass (2026-07-24, claude-fable-5): all 17 leaves of the CHL manuscript (Historian's Office general Church minutes, 1839-1877, '1848 September-December' / 'General Conference minutes, Salt Lake City,' CR 100 318, recorded by Thomas Bullock) are now transcribed below by direct reading of the CHL leaf images, fetched via the catalog's own delivery API (accessLevelCode: unconditional confirmed per leaf before download). Method: four overlapping 2x-scale contrast-enhanced bands per leaf plus targeted 3-4x zooms. The record covers the October 6 opening and the adjourned Sunday sessions of October 8, 15, 22, and 29, 1848 (Bullock's closing docket lists all five dates), plus a separate revised fair copy of Brigham Young's October 8 priesthood address (leaves 14-17, docketed as an epistle 'revised copied & sent' to O. Hyde and G. A. Smith). Two readings in this file's earlier partial transcription are corrected against the scan: the manuscript reads '10 A.M.' (not '10 1/2 A.M.') and '^General Conference' with 'General' interlined by caret (not 'Special Conference'). Leaf 13 is a duplicate oblique capture of leaf 12. Still graded fragmentary because Bullock's minute-hand carries word-level uncertainty in spots; uncertain readings are bracketed in place, cancellations recorded as [struck: ...], interlineations as ^[...].
All 17 leaves transcribed below (2026-07-24) by direct reading of the leaf images (files CR 100 318_2_11_1.jpg through _2_11_17.jpg, numbered here leaves 1-17 in catalog-viewer order; leaf 13 is a duplicate capture of leaf 12). Catalog description: 'General Conference, continued through October Sunday meetings. Speakers included Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, John Taylor, Parley P. Pratt, Erastus Snow, and Charles C. Rich. Recorded by Thomas Bullock. Includes second copy of Brigham Young's address of October 8 by Thomas Bullock and Curtis E. Bolton.' The transcription below confirms the description; Addison Pratt, Amasa Lyman, W. W. Phelps, Reynolds Cahoon, J. M. Grant, John Kempton, Willard Snow, W. W. Major, and Andrew Cahoon also appear as speakers.
OCR'd from churchchronology00jensrich_djvu.txt, lines ~228-243. Jenson's one sentence on the Oct. 8, 1848 ratification is corroborated by the manuscript's own sustaining record (leaf 1). Retained as a secondary corroborating source.

Light review (original pass): in-context proofread; no artifacts found in the short file that existed at that time.
Collated word-by-word against the original scan.
Legacy field (heavyweight review retired 2026-07). The 2026-07 heavyweight pass located the CHL manuscript and transcribed only the opening heading and attendee line (with two readings since corrected against the scan); the full manuscript text now present in this file was transcribed in the 2026-07-24 follow-up pass described in fidelity_notes.
