Minutes of the First Conference of the Church

Conference record · 1830 June General Conference · 1830-06-09

Fidelity

○Fragmentary

Preferred witness is contemporaneous conference minutes by Oliver Cowdery in Minute Book 2. The record preserves business, ordinations, and brief references to exhortation, but not full sermon texts. A later History A-1 narrative is included as a secondary witness and gives a retrospective description of instruction and spiritual manifestations.

Witnesses

Minute Book 2, p. 1transcription sourcearchived

Minutes taken at the time of the conference by Oliver Cowdery; does not preserve full sermon text.

Later narrative history begun in 1838 and compiled from multiple sources; provides retrospective description of the first conference.

Collation history

Proofread against the source text.

Light review: in-context proofread, encoding-artifact cleanup, synopsis/session-artifact cleanup, and spacing fixes. NOT a full page-by-page scan collation.

Collated word-by-word against the original scan.

Heavyweight pass: JSP source URLs verified as the correct item/page for this conference; Minute Book 2 p.1 transcript and History A-1 pp.41-42 transcript both collated word-for-word against the JSP page transcripts (fetched directly, not jod.mrm.org) -- both witnesses match the vault text exactly, including original spelling ('recieved', 'seignior') and the canceled-word reading in History A-1 ('proceeded' not the struck 'called'). No missing or altered text found. Metadata (title, speaker, date, conference, fidelity, witnesses) confirmed accurate as recorded.

Corrections

This is a living critical edition. If you find a transcription, metadata, or sourcing error in this talk, report it to the editors →Reports are collated against the page scan and land as corrections in the vault.
